This can be a tough question, often stopping me in my tracks. Sometimes I have an answer, sometimes I don’t. Often it is not even about what the exact reason is but whether I have any reason at all. Am I just moving through life mindlessly?
Do I have a purpose for what I am doing?
Purpose.
This is my strategy for going into next year, not necessarily a specific goal, but just making sure that there is a purpose for what I am doing - With my time, with my body, with my children and my marriage, and with my business. As I prepare for our children to fly from our nest, I am realizing that time is so very short. I want the time I have to matter and to not just slip away unused. I want to be thoughtful, aware, and intentional with what I do with the minutes, days, and weeks that will come and go all too quickly this year.
Which means less mindlessness.
...less time lost scrolling through useless posts
...less chances for just eating whatever is around regardless of its value.
More appreciation.
...more of the small moments of connection
...more of the flavors, colors, and textures of the foods I eat
...more of the times when I am making the CHOICE to rest, relax, and stop striving.
More focus.
...on keeping the most important things at the top of the list of priorities in order to get the most out of my time.
This is my philosophy for therapy as well.
This intention is what I strive for in our sessions and in your exercises: That there is purpose behind each stretch, breath, movement, and conversation. Each visit is to be spent teaching you at least one new thing you did not know about how your body functions or helping you master one new exercise or movement pattern. I want neither your time nor mine to be wasted on endless repetitions or general exercise, but instead invested in thoughtful activities that move you toward your goals. And I want you to know why. Why you are doing these silly breath exercises, pretzel like stretches, and strength training exercises.
You need to know why you are doing what you are doing.
You need purpose!
Let’s face this year with purpose!
Let’s be intentional!
Let’s tackle 2022 together!
