Rest: Stop for just a minute!!

Updated: Feb 4

July 2021

Rest…

Defined as “ceasing work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength” or as “an instance or period of relaxing or ceasing to engage in strenuous or stressful activity”

It’s funny to me how after a year of cancellations, postponements, and staying at home, we all seem to be in need of rest. We have been on a frantic, high alert, caution mode for months and have been surrounded by controversy and crisis.

We need a break. For our bodies and our minds. We need rest. Not necessarily sleep, or vacation, but rest. We need a chance to turn down the news and turn up the sounds of nature. To have less busyness and focus on just being.

When we stop striving, we are confirming that our value is not tied to our achievements. When we step back from social media, we remind ourselves that our importance does not come from our profiles. Resting can set us free from the constraints and labels the world puts on us and lets us be who we were created to be.

Even in the world of pelvic health, we understand this. Our muscles function better when they have adequate relaxation and rest. Our nervous system functions better with some time spent re-setting and slowing down.

So, in this otherwise busy season, look for moments to rest. Stop and enjoy a sunset, watch the squirrels chase each other around the yard, read a book that warms your heart. Pause for just a moment and rest.
